INDIANAPOLIS GUIDE
Emergency plumbing in Indianapolis
Deep freezes turn small oversights into flooded basements. Knowing your shutoffs before January is the whole game.
Urgent list
Burst supply line, sewage on the floor, gas odor near a heater, or a water heater dumping from the T&P line: urgent. A dripping stop-valve you can isolate: usually not.
Freeze breaks
Central Indiana winters bring repeated freeze–thaw cycles. A single arctic blast can freeze hose bibs and poorly insulated basement or crawlspace lines; spring thaws then reveal slow leaks that started as hairline cracks. If you open a faucet and get a surge after a thaw, look for new drips along exterior walls and basements.
Basement homes
Many Indy houses put mechanicals in basements. Say whether water has reached the electrical panel area—crews need that for safety planning.
Call script
Neighborhood or suburb, whether the main is off, whether heat is on, and whether anyone used a torch or chemicals. Ask about after-hours rates before you approve a dispatch.
